Lise Bramall's retirement information page

When:

Friday June 24, 2016

Where:

NRC - 100 Sussex Dr.

Short Synopsis of her career:

Lise started working at NRC on July 4th, 1966. Even though she was transfered to Shared Services Canada in November 2011, her main clients have always been "biology", whether they were called Division of Biology, Institute for Biological Sciences, or Human Health Therapeutics.

She was hired as a Lab Technician in the NRC Biometrics Group of the Division of Biology. She was hired by Dr. Hopkins, who founded the NRC Biometrics Laboratory. He remained as her boss/supervisor until 1973. At roughly the time when the "Divisions" became "Institutes", Lise joined the Research Computing Support Group at the Science Affairs Office. That was in 1992. That entire group was transfered to Shared Services Canada in 2011, but Lise continued to support the same clients. When she retires, as part of the High Performance Computing Optimization Group, on July 4th, 2016, she will be the last person from the original group leaving Sussex Drive.

Throughout her career, Lise was involved in programming and supporting the Biology researchers from the beginning, on the very first computers used at NRC. She used every generation of computers used at NRC, from 1966 until the present. She has used paper tape, magnetic tape, optical devices, solid state devices.

Lise has co-authored 8 research papers, and was acknowledged in 20 others. She has also won a number of awards including an IBS Achievement award, and the 2006 NRC Corporate Outstanding Achievement Group Award as a member of the Research Computing Support Group.

Stories

If you have short stories about Lise, please send them to claudeccantin@gmail.com. We will make them available to her. We may even use some of them during the retirement presentations.

Events Currently Tentatively Planned:

  1. Pot-Luck at the 100 Sussex Drive Cafeteria - noon

Please bring a dish and share it amongst friends.

Alternatively, contribute $5-$10 for lunch and we will order in some food (pizza, finger foods). If you are not contributing in advance, please Claude know so we have an idea on how many people to expect.

    Starts at noon.

  2. Meet and greet - from noon

Use the cafeteria to meet and greet current and former colleagues. That room will be available until 4:30 or 5:00.

  3. Short Ceremony - roughly at 1:30

  4. Most likely at 1:30, to let some people going back to work.

The rest can mingle, and catchup the rest of the afternoon.

  5. Videoconference and teleconference greetings - Cancelled

Because of logistics and NRC Security Policies (physical security), moving to room 3001 would cause too many issues. Videoconference is therefore out. But if you want to call her, between 3:00 and 4:00, you can call my (Claude's) cell phone, and I will hand it over to her for you... I am at 613-854-6580. Note that cell reception in the cafeteria is spotty at best...
  6. Select people dinner with Lise

    Sorry, cannot invite everyone...
